The Beach at Lac Assal

Lac Assal is a the lowest point in Africa, and one of the highest concentrations of a hypersaline bodies of water in the world. Unfortunately I have not been able to visit the lake...yet...but some friends and I last weekend traveled 2 hours from our base to go swim, snorkel, and hike around a small inlet near Lac, in the Gulf of Tadjour. Above is a photo of the beach, which unfortunately is laden with debris, and more unfortunately, is rumored to be forever marred by eminent industrial development. The dome is rock is from lava formation, the most recent activity recorded in the late 1970s.
